If you’re looking to build your dream barndominium, using a metal framed floor plan should definitely be on your list of considerations. There are lots of benefits to using metal framing as opposed to traditional wood, such as energy efficiency, durability, and potential to speed up the build process. Check out some of our favorite metal framed house plans, or browse our full collection to see them all!
1) Modern Metal Framed Ranch with 4 Car Garage
Plan 25429TF has a very classic barndominium style exterior. We love that the efficiency of the layout doesn’t sacrifice some of our favorite amenities – including a walk-in pantry, home office, and walk-in closets for all bedrooms. The large garage is designed to fit four vehicles and includes additional storage space. The home office can also be used as an in-law or guest suite, adding lots of flexibility to the home.
2) Under 2,500 SqFt Metal Modern Farmhouse
We love how much this Plan 16922WG packs into a well designed layout that sits just under 2,500 SqFt. This home is designed to accommodate a “bolt-up” metal building technology. This is in contrast to a “weld-up” metal building. The advantage of a “bolt-up” metal building is the ability to manufacture the entire frame in the shop and deliver to the site ready to be stood-up and bolted together in a much shorter frame of time. Welding connections can take weeks or months. Bolt-ups can be assembled in days. Exterior roofing and siding also install much faster on metal buildings than do conventional residential construction techniques. Homeowners will love the spacious primary suite that includes a safe room.
3) Metal Framed Rustic Barndominium
The rustic farmhouse style of Plan 777004MTL gives it great curb appeal. The first floor layout houses 3 bedrooms, a home office, and lots of closet and pantry space. If you’re looking for more space, the second floor can be finished to add 1,400 additional SqFt. We think this would make a great option for recreational space, such as a playroom or home gym. An added bonus: each bedroom has its own bathroom.
4) Contemporary Scandinavian Style Metal Home
Looking for a plan with metal framing, but don’t love farmhouse or barndominium style homes? Contemporary Plan 777007MTL has a beautiful Scandinavian inspired exterior design and a great layout that is under 2,000 sqft. A large 18×24 covered porch can be used as an outdoor living room. The upstairs loft would make a great home office, or serve as an additional bedroom.
5) 3 Bedroom Metal Framed Country Cottage
We love the classic country look of Plan 777005MTL. This plan is a great option for smaller families, or a couple looking to downsize. The primary suite is located on the main floor. A cozy kitchen is placed just off the dining room, and has easy access to the walk in pantry and laundry room. Two additional bedrooms are located upstairs.
